Privacy policy

Memento is designed to work without an account or backend. We do not collect, transmit, sell, or share personal data.

Data stored on your device

Memento stores the following information locally:

• Your current Bible reading position and selected translation.
• Your reading-gate settings and daily progress.
• Opaque Screen Time selection tokens managed by Apple.
• On Android, the package names and display names of apps you explicitly select, per-app verse goals, active challenge progress, and temporary unlock expiration times.

This information remains on your device. Deleting the app removes its local data, subject to normal device backup and restore behavior.

Screen Time and selected apps

If you enable app gating, Memento asks for Apple Family Controls authorization. Apple’s private Family Activity Picker lets you choose apps or categories. Apple provides privacy-preserving tokens; Memento does not receive browsing history, usage history, or the identity of individual selected apps from those tokens.

The app uses those tokens only to apply or remove the restrictions you configure. You can turn off all gating inside Memento or revoke Screen Time permission in iOS Settings at any time.

Android Accessibility service and selected apps

On Android, app gating is optional and uses an Accessibility service to detect when an app you selected becomes the foreground app. The service processes only that app’s package name on your device so it can open the reading challenge. It is configured not to retrieve window content and does not read screen text, messages, passwords, typed text, accessibility nodes, screenshots, or browsing history. It does not perform gestures or change device settings.

Memento lists launchable apps so you can choose which packages to gate. It does not retain a general inventory of installed apps or a history of apps you open. Selected package information and gate state remain on your device and are not transmitted or shared. You can turn off gating in the app or disable the service in Android Accessibility settings.

Network access

Bible text is bundled with the app and reading does not require network access. Memento contains no advertising, analytics, tracking SDKs, or third-party sign-in.

Children

Memento is a general-audience reading tool and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children.

Changes

If the app’s data practices change, this policy will be updated before the changed version is released.
