Privacy policy

Effective September 13, 2026

Memento does not require an account and contains no advertising, analytics, or tracking SDKs. We do not sell personal data. This policy explains the limited network processing needed to deliver licensed Bible text.

Data stored on your device

Memento stores the following information locally:

• Your current Bible reading position and selected translation.
• Bible chapters cached for up to 14 days.
• Your reading-gate settings and daily progress.
• Your reader preferences and recent snooze activity.
• Opaque Screen Time selection tokens managed by Apple.
• On Android, the package names and display names of apps you explicitly select, per-app verse goals, active challenge progress, and temporary unlock expiration times.

Your exact verse position, reading history, gate configuration, and selected-app information remain on your device. Deleting the app removes its local data, subject to normal device backup and restore behavior.

Screen Time and selected apps

If you enable app gating, Memento asks for Apple Family Controls authorization. Apple’s private Family Activity Picker lets you choose apps or categories. Apple provides privacy-preserving tokens; Memento does not receive browsing history, usage history, or the identity of individual selected apps from those tokens.

The app uses those tokens only to apply or remove the restrictions you configure. You can turn off all gating inside Memento or revoke Screen Time permission in iOS Settings at any time.

Android Accessibility service and selected apps

On Android, app gating is optional and uses an Accessibility service to detect when an app you selected becomes the foreground app. The service processes only that app’s package name on your device so it can open the reading challenge. It is configured not to retrieve window content and does not read screen text, messages, passwords, typed text, accessibility nodes, screenshots, or browsing history. It does not perform gestures or change device settings.

Memento lists launchable apps so you can choose which packages to gate. It does not retain a general inventory of installed apps or a history of apps you open. Selected package information and gate state remain on your device and are not transmitted or shared. You can turn off gating in the app or disable the service in Android Accessibility settings.

Network access

Memento requests licensed Bible text from a narrowly scoped Scripture endpoint hosted by Vercel when NLT, MSG, or NKJV is selected. A request contains only the selected translation and chapter. The KJV and KRV texts are bundled with the app, and selecting either translation causes no Scripture network request. No request contains your exact verse position, reading history, gate settings, selected apps, name, email address, account identifier, or advertising identifier.

Vercel necessarily processes standard network information such as your IP address, request time, and user agent to deliver and secure the request. Vercel may retain short-lived request logs according to the project’s service plan. The endpoint then requests the selected chapter from API.Bible; API.Bible receives the server request rather than a direct request from your device.

Complete chapter responses are cached by the server and on your device for no longer than 14 days. A chapter already cached on your device can be read without another network request until that cache expires. Memento contains no advertising, analytics, tracking SDKs, or third-party sign-in.

Bucci Labs does not use this network information to create an advertising profile, track you across apps or websites, or sell or share personal information for targeted advertising.

Children

Memento is a general-audience reading tool and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children.

Your choices and data deletion

App gating is optional. You can turn it off inside Memento, revoke Screen Time access in iOS Settings, or disable Memento's Accessibility service in Android Settings. Because Memento has no account or remote user profile, there is no server-side account to delete. Deleting the app removes Memento's local data, subject to your device's normal backup and restore behavior.
